This is an exciting time as I launch my blog leaderconsulting.biz, one component of my business. It has been a long time in the making with lots of thoughts, dreams, and ideas but the time is here, so welcome!
What motivates me each day is my passion for leadership, which instills a drive in me to make a difference. By providing proven principles and resources from my professional experience and academic training, I strive to enable individuals to make confident, informed decisions impacting the viability of their lives, their business, and their community.
Next was coming up with a name for my business: I choose LEADER Consulting for two reasons:
Obviously, leader is the source of the word leadership, and the goal behind leadership development is building skill sets in individuals to learn and practice to be the best leader they can be to serve in their professional and personal lives. Leaders – Lead. LEADER Consulting will guide you, your business or organization through the important steps of becoming confident in leading and serving as a leader.
The second reason is more personal to me. My dad was a young boy during the Depression years, and all he ever dreamed of doing was raising the best beef cattle he possibly could. He dropped out of school after completing 8th grade, to help with the farm work and immediately started setting his goals on being a master cattleman. He worked long hours, was eager to learn as much as he could, studied cattleman he emulated, tested out new ideas and practices, and yes, sometimes Dad failed, but he never gave up. He was an outside the box thinker. This was confirmed when he purchased a Shorthorn beef bull, named “Leader”. His fellow cattleman thought he had made a big mistake because Leader did not match the confounds of the cattle business in the 1960’s. Leader was different – different enough to break records – set new heights in cattle genetics and mold the rest of my dad’s future in the cattle business like the leaders he once emulated. Dad often said, “Leader changed my life.” (photo from 1962 of my Dad – Bob Gordon, LEADER and my oldest sister Lois)
When it was time to name my business, it seemed fitting I chose LEADER Consulting, because of my passion for teaching others about leadership development, a history-making beef animal named Leader, and a father who is the leader I emulate. Thanks Dad for teaching me about leadership way before I really knew what it was. Miss you, but cherish the memories we had.
Until next time . . .
